This was a post by Squee in my staking group's site.  Prob not a great idea to post it here, but meh.... its just general stuff anyways.  Good read nonetheless, and gunna try and incorporate some of it.... I love his notetaking method.

"As a general rule the most successful man in life is the man who has the best information"
-Benjamin Disraeli

So I know a lot of you guys joined ****** not only for the ability to be backed, but to also work with top level minds and coaches who will teach you to think about your game creatively. I want to share with you the hard work and steps I put in to get where I am in my poker game today. I am sure if you are driven and work harder than I did success will be guaranteed .

I want to start out by emphasizing that there’s a sharp difference between playing poker full-time and playing poker professionally. People who play poker full-time are doing just that “playing poker” all the time. They aren’t studying the game in their off time, they aren’t leakbusting themselves, they aren’t improving the mistakes in their games. They are not treating their job like it’s their profession.

As a professional poker player the best way for me to learn from poker is off the table. It comes from building models in CREV. It comes from adjusting ranges and writing down results in a spreadsheet from Flopzilla and Holdem Resources Calculator. It comes from constantly bugging the players better than me to help me with my game, and from watching and discussing poker on Pocarr and twoplustwo.

Step 1. Pick a day, make it your seriously think about poker day.

This is a day where you should be watching videos on ******, (Taking notes along the way in a google docs or notepad, re-read the notes and thoughts that interested you before your sessions). This will help you keep important concepts in mind that you are trying to focus on. It could be donk betting more 765 or 975 flops or maybe it’s bluff check raising turn vs high double barrel numbers.

If you grind a session this day and you play 12+ tables usually, try playing 6 today. Play a small session where you stop regging after the first couple of hours. If you get low on tables and are deep in something. Start loading up your favorite MTT players on other tables, whether that’s me, Cal, Pessagno, Assassinato, find someone better than you and watch how they play. If they take lines you never would take, 3b ship with something really light, 3x fold in a weird spot, Try to think about why they are taking this line and what they are trying to accomplish.

Step 2. Pick an intention every week.

Focus on it before grinding the session, during the breaks try and analyze how you’ve been doing on your intention. Sample intentions could be; Finding better spots to float flop oop and bet rive. Finding bluff x/r spots that will work. Abusing your image and 3betting light if you are playing tight at a table Finding a cold 4 bet spot based on stats at least once an hour. Analyze your game and change your intention every week, figure out new plays that are working and start to discard or adjust the big money losers.

Try and do some yoga, stretching, pushups, situps, or exercise to get blood flowing for a couple minutes every break, it’ll help with mental concentration for long grind sessions, it will also keep you in shape as a an online poker player. I think this is heavily underused by online poker players.

Step 3. Note-Taking

Learn how to take notes on your fellow poker players. 2.2x3b/fai 23bb 500 sb/btn 55r. That means to me this player made a 3bet with sizing 2.2x the origing raise, and folded to a 4b allin in the sb and the btn at blind level 500 in a 55r. 2.2x3b/fai 23bb 500 (2) means I’ve seen the same thing twice. I take these notes as I play and I color code the player for the types of things they do. If I want to take a quick note and have too many tables to write I use color coding for, I’ll color the person on PT4 or stars based on an abusable or important to know tendency.

Red on stars: 3b ships 15-20bb wide vs me
Blue: raise/call wide vs me
Bluestars: Min3b/ Min raises with 15- bbs are QQ-AK+
yellow: DB strong
purple: has M4b weak vs me more than once.
Purplestars: Openships too wide
green, folds to too many 3bs/or cbets in 3b pot
Red: raise flop weak
Indigo: herroes
Orange: Raise flop stron
Orangestars: did something crazy
Indigostars: limp strong

In their notes if I see a raise flop weak happen more than once, I’ll write (Red (3)). If I see them add strength 2 times to a 3/3 weak range. It might say Red(⅗). The important thing is to get a system where you can use as much information as you can and you will be able to start abusing your opponents faster as you pick up on common mistakes.

Ya about his notes, they seem messy to me so I would clean up some of the clutter but I like coloring this type of action I think rather than what I was doing before (skill level based).... I think this will provide some actual help in game for a change

whats funny about that is that the change is geared towards mass tabling, as the notes are built for speedier decisions.

Cool post though, to each there own, I think building our own system is what really starts to count, use what is good discard the rest.
