Exploiting Paired board cbets.

Post  RWPKRPLR1 on Wed Feb 19, 2014 6:57 pm

Cbets are so common on paired boards, how can we exploit them? I think we can take down alot of uncontested money.
Better yet who can we take these pots away from?(things to watch for)

PokerStars - $4+$0.40|100/200 Ante 25 NL (4 max) - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

SB: 55,237
Hero (BB): 9,647
CO: 20,615
BTN: 25,298

4 players post ante of 25, SB posts SB 100, Hero posts BB 200

Pre Flop: (pot: 400) Hero has 4:club: 4:spade:

CO raises to 500, fold, fold, Hero calls 300

Flop: (1,200, 2 players) 9:spade: 9:heart: 8:club:
Hero checks, CO bets 600, Hero raises to 2,200, fold

Hero wins 2,400

I think in micros u can do this profitably 100% of the time

When u do this, u are setting yourself up for levelling wars , so be prepared !!!

you end up bet folding your 44 vs the already made hands part of villains range.

We aren't even sure villain folds bw when we do this, which would be upsetting because we'll have a tough time seeing a showdown and playing oop.

Remember we want to be the player in position reacting to others oop x/raises in general. I'm quite happy to be the cu here and constantly face oop x/raises as the rest of the action in the hand will have the x/raiser in the dark.

Also 44 is too good of hand to be x/raise folding here. Its a dry board and you prob have like 40% equity or something. Don't be afraid of postflop, poker is easy, you have a hand, you have odds to call, x/call!

It's possible there are times when x/raise is the best play, and we can get value and collect dead money, but as a general rule when you x/raise as a bluff you don't want to have a made hand or much equity, because you end up making a mistake folding when villain reraise....you get good odds to call since there is already so much money in the pot!

We're not going to be engaging in leveling wars in the micro levels. Get a hand and value bet the fish, easy game.

Ok ran this hand through stove and saw how much equity we actually have. You're right  Razz we have lots of equity on the flop and unless it comes perfect perfect BW cards on the turn and river, we have showdown value. (on the turn and river, it also depends on villains bet sizing too)

And thx for mentioning the part about playing OOP, lately ive wanted to play as many flops as possible. So I haven't worried about playing IP/OOP, which is terrible.

I think if its paired rainbow type boards like this, we can try to get to showdown cheap. That would be my go to. Villian dependant, but most arent going to triple barrel u with air here due to stack sizes. Only thing that worries me is the fact that if he has any broadway hands, they are either guttered w 2 overs, or open ended with two overs. Either way, its gunna be nasty on either turn or river or both if we face bets.

If it were a suited paired board, could we think about maybe x/r/gii? We just go up against so many more drawing hands when the chips go in....

What about donking the flop? I know paired board, we will get played back at a lot (with a lot of air), so maybe then we can shove over a raise?

This one would be perfect for CRev to see the different options' ev.

Also, don't "try" to get to post flop just to work on it. If anything, play normal, and review post more, which will help the next session. Trying to get to post flop more to work on it will result in you making mistakes that you dont make currently. Which is bad.  affraid affraid

I like all reebs said except donking for value we often value town ourselves. Def a time and place for it but we need some READS!!!

Card runner will show us this cause its gonna ask us both our ranges and villains ranges on every streets and every decision and we are quite in the dark.

Anyways value town the shit out of randoms, x/call this flop we can always talk about turn and river play later and you'll find if pre and flop are in their place turn and river speak for themselves.

working on it...Its just a slow process with work and family obligations.  I'm going to shut up and get back to work now, I do tend give alot of excuses.

edit: after I understand this stuff better, and before i move on to the turn, I need to understand post flop bet sizing.
