Bad Hands in the BB Empty Bad Hands in the BB

Post  negreanu1985 Thu Mar 06, 2014 1:13 pm

I am wondering how to play a more +EV BB strategy as I don't want to stupidly fold all my blinds, but I also want to avoid losing so many pots when I am in the BB and overplay a hand I would not normally be in with. Looking for general strategy suggestions.

The following 2 scenarios happen to me a lot:

1) button or LP limps, SB completes, I have bad hand check in the BB, I end up hitting something like top pair or a good draw and losing a massive stack to LP who I have very little info on. In the HH this is the big loss at the end with J5.

2) EP minraise, SB calls, I'm in the BB with 2 bad cards. I feel priced in and then I end up hitting and losing to the EP who can have 2 high cards or an over pair. For instance, I have 74o in the BB, EP min raises, SB calls, I'm getting 6 to 1 on a call so I call. Flop comes 7 rag rag, end up losing big to hands like 88+

These few videos will help explain a lot. If you already know this stuff that's kool, we all can use a refresher here and there.

Here is a free equity Calculator you can play around with...

That's the thing about flatting from bb. We have the odds as you stated, that's good, we call. Depending on how deep we are, we need to prepare ourselves for the postflop action differently though. Shallow stacks are easy to play, as we just check jam all our made hands and print money. Deeper stacks are obv more difficult to play. Likely, on a 7xx board with 74o, I am looking to get to showdown cheap....

If stacks are shallow (20bb and under?) and you aren't prepared to stack off with 74o on 7xx flops then you shouldn't be calling preflop imo.

I'm Ripping  74o with less than 20bb on a 7 high flop , and a good chance our 4 hits hard with backdoors on the bottom 1/3 of the deck flop , I'm fist pump getting that in

Someone equity calc on 74o on 7xx flop against an over pair

Folding is hilarious

assume the flop is 7d6s2h:

ok lets say ep minraised with a pretty tight range.... AA-77,AKo-AJo,KQo,AKs-ATs,KQs (8.75%).... we have 55% eq with 7h4c on the flop

In this situation, villain will have overpairs to our 7h4c about 38% of the time.  He will have ace high 47% of the time and no made hand 15%.  Interesting to note that a majority of the deck will result in us having 60% eq on the turn vs that same opening range (not vs his continuing range).  As long as it comes T or lower, it looks good for us.

-------

If we change his opening range to a bit looser (16.4%) AA-22,AKo-A9o,KQo-KJo,AKs-A7s,KQs-KTs,QJs,JTs,T9s,98s .... we have 61.7% eq with 7h4c on the flop

In this situation, villain will have overpairs to our 7h4c about 21% of the time.  He will have weak pairs 7.5% of the time.  He will have ace high 41.5% of the time and no made hand 26%.  In this case, vs his opening range, almost the entire deck (up to Q) will give us over 55% eq on the turn.
